FTP what is it and how do I use it?
The most common way to get files from your computer to a webserver is through a protocol called FTP, that stands for File Transfer Protocol. There are quite a few programs that will help you upload your website to our webservers. Most HTML Editors will have a built in FTP program to upload your webpages when your done working with them. Since I cannot cover every FTP program or every HTML editor that does FTP I will just cover a good solid FTP program I use here at work, and I will also cover Microsofts FrontPage Express built in FTP capabilites.

If you know what you're already doing with your FTP client and want to connect, use the following for your connection to the InfoWest FTP Server:
Hostname: ftp.infowest.com
Username: Your InfoWest Dialup Username
Password: Your InfoWest Dialup Password

Crystal FTP download it here

Crystal FTP is a freeware program, that means you can use it as long as you want and that you dont have to pay for it. The reason they do this is because they put banners inside the program to pay for the liscense instead of the actual user paying.

The reason I suggest this software is because free is always good :) but besides being free its fast, easy to use and its not to hard to set up, and it allows you to drag and drop files. click here to visit their homepage

I dont go over the install or downloading of Crystal FTP for one basic reason, if you dont understand the basics of computers enough to install a program, your probably not ready to start uploading and download files to a remote computer.

Front Page Express

FrontPage Express is the default HTML editor for Microsoft Windows. Since it does come with most new computers it tends to be a popular program for our users learning how to make their own website.

The program itself is setup to act like a common word processor, with almost the same set of buttons for fonts, text size, centering, and others. There is a few drawbacks to usuing FrontPage to design your pages with though #1 its not a true HTML editor, it doesnt follow the standards the rest of the internet uses, for instance, it allows you to put spaces in file names and folder names. For this reason please be sure to always use lowercase lettters in naming files and folders, and never ever use spaces.

Another reason I dont like FrontPage is how it uploads the files to the online server, it doesnt allow you to upload one file at a time, rather it makes you upload the website as a whole instead of in bits and pieces. Its very frustrating when you need to change one sentence on one page and it wants to upload the entire website to do that.

If your still convinced that FrontPage is the right program for you I listed the link below.
